A trip to Kyoto with my preschooler. Considering convenience, I chose this place as it is closest to the station. After arriving in Kyoto by Shinkansen, it was very helpful being directly connected to the station. I was surprised when I saw the lobby! I thought it seemed luxurious when making the reservation, but it was truly a wonderful space and stylish. I felt a bit out of place with my child (><), but the staff immediately greeted us with smiles and guided us to the front desk.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Okura Kyoto. This is a traditional Japanese (Western style) hotel: think old money landmark, with a long history (established in 1888, I believe). We had a nice upper-floor room for three adults located in the front of the building. We had a nice view of a water feature and the intersection of one of the main streets in Kyoto. Besides a great view, we had a wonderful stay! The room was pretty modern and comfortable with air conditioning, a shower, a separate tub, with amenities such as bath salts, facial cotton and soft towels.

This time I went from Sanjo Station. What an impressive building! I was surprised and wondered where to enter. Perhaps it was already dark. When going out, I headed east, but it felt difficult to enter and exit from the eastern car stop entrance, so I entered and exited from the west side. I was able to spend my time comfortably and leisurely in the room.

Ten years ago, I stayed at BD and unexpectedly received a surprise celebration (they brought an incredibly cute surprise dessert plate and a gift of champagne to my room. I was so happy that I have kept the cute champagne bottle on display in my kitchen). I was moved, but it seems that either the manager or the owner has changed, and the service has become very simple. This time, I received a small candy as a gift. I am very sorry, but honestly, I wasn’t really happy about it.

Two days ago, I stayed in a room called “En,” which was very good, and the Japanese breakfast was very delicious, so I came back again. Since I couldn’t choose “En” on the website, I left it up to them, but the room was very dark and based on black, which might be fine for men but was unsettling for women. I was very sorry about that, but I immediately requested a change. After the change, I was very grateful for the bright room based on light wood. (Thank you for your understanding.

This is a fine hotel for business travelers staying just a night or two. For tourists like me and my husband staying for 10 days, not so much. The rooms in this hotel look just like any business hotel in the USA. The staff is very friendly, lots of arigato gozimas’s going round. But ask for a good place to have, say sushi, hida beef, or yakitori they will demur.

It is close to Kiyomizu-dera, making it convenient to explore tourist attractions in Kyoto. There is a shuttle bus to Kyoto Station, which is nice, but it was a bit disappointing that there might be traffic congestion depending on Kyoto’s traffic situation. The hotel has a beautiful view and is well maintained. The long stretches of trees are impressive. The breakfast is delicious—simple yet substantial, with a Japanese-style meal.

The staff were exceptional and a few of them are worthy of call outs. The guy who checked us in was pleasant, knowledgeable and thorough – he was originally from Albania and checked in on our stay throughout to ensure we were getting what we needed. We were delayed leaving due to weather and he helped organize our family to be able to stay in the two original adjoining rooms. When dining at Cafe 33, a woman from Nepal consistently checked in on us, made sure we enjoyed our food and would offer up samples for our kids to taste before they ordered – she was just terrific. The two women concierges who helped us DAILY were knowledgeable and helpful.

Love love love Hyatt Regency! Very nice and friendly staffs, delicious breakfast, and very nice, modern room. We got a room with a beautiful Japanese garden view, and the room service surprised our children by tucking their plush toy animal to their bed. They were so happy. We watched the Maiko performance in the hotel as well (complimentary) and the hotel provided complimentary drinks, which is very thoughtful. There were a Christmas choir in the hotel lobby and charity program which were so nice as well.
